Cynthia L. Lopez, MD

Cynthia L. Lopez, MD is a native of Fairborn, Ohio and has lived with her family and practiced in Greenville. She graduated from Wright State University Medical School in Dayton Ohio where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Honor Society and received the PICO award for excellence in patient relations. She completed her internal medicine internship and neurology residency at The Ohio State University. She was subsequently awarded dual fellowships in neuromuscular disease and electromyography (EMG) at the renowned Cleveland Clinic, ranked repeatedly as one of the top neurology hospitals by the U.S. News & World Report.

Dr. Lopez is featured in the U.S. News & World Report as Top Doctors, as chosen by peers.

Dr. Lopez has dual board certifications in both neurology and in electromyography and has enjoyed a teaching appointment with The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Neurology as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology. She has been in private practice in Greenville and practices diagnostic outpatient neurology with additional expertise in neuromuscular diseases, EMG testing, and Botox therapy. Her mission is to provide high quality care with kindness and compassion. She feels honored to care for her patients.

Professional background

Dr. Cynthia L. Lopez is accepting new patients and focuses on diagnostic neuromuscular disease with additional subspecialty expertise in electrodiagnostic medicine, including EMG testing. She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and she also offers limited Spanish language support.

Her education and training include fellowships in neuromuscular disease and electromyography at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. She completed her neurology residency and internal medicine internship at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Lopez earned her M.D. from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Honor Society, and completed her undergraduate studies there with a B.S. in Biology, graduating magna cum laude.

Academic and professional service

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Lopez has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Neurology, at The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. She has also served as Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic at the Brody School of Medicine. Her professional affiliations include the American Medical Association, the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine, the American Neurological Association, the North Carolina Medical Society, and The Movement Disorder Society.

Honors and recognition

Dr. Lopez has been recognized through a number of academic, professional, and community honors. These include membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society at Wright State University, the PICO Award for excellence in furthering good physician-patient relations, recognition from the Pitt County Medical Society for community service in caring for the uninsured, appreciation from Roanoke-Chowan Hospital for 10 years of service and dedication, acknowledgment from Building Hope Community Life Center for Silver Level Sponsorship, and recognition by the Consumer Research Council of America as one of America’s Top Physicians.

Publications and research

Her scholarly work includes publication and presentation activity such as Peripheral Neuropathy in Conn’s Therapy and a poster presentation on the benefits and cost of tube feedings in ALS at Cleveland Clinic Foundations. Dr. Lopez has also participated in clinical research trials including Nathan I, Nathan II, Sanwa, Glaxo 30005, and studies with Eisai Medical Research, Inc.
